Interesting Architecture in Ferro-Cement

Just recently saw some pictures of a resort on the French Riviera called the Palais Bulles and then badda bing bada boom, found myself eye deep in various other ferro-cement structures and websites.  There is a pretty in-depth explanation and history at this link, and also check out the video below for a tour through the 'Bubble Palace' on the French Riviera- pretty wild stuff!! ENJOY.

  1. Oh the views! Love the B side Pink Floyd but didn't know the language. Some questions on the roof can I still post?

  2. As the sod roof post is becoming a bit 'buried' I have copied and pasted your question from there up here so it's a bit more accessible. The questions were:

What room is the roof over? Is there space just below it? How deep can the root systems be? Water and weight are usually the issues and in my expierence therefore-spendy,to meet todays living standards and building codes. It is a real green challenge to do it with any current asthetics in mind-but that is what your showing us how to do.

Always great to hear some good questions! The sod roof spans over the living room and dining room areas (just inside the sliders, see above/ most recent post for more visuals). The total soil depth will be around 150mm (6"), but as you can see the root system in the Toyota tiles are quite minimal. The living roof system was (and continues to be) quite 'spendy', hence the comment about the time machine.

Also, many thanks for the suggestion on visiting the eomega.org site - very cool and progressive things happening there!! For those of you in the North Eastern US please check this site out and look at some of the workshops the campus will be hosting starting this May.

  3. Hey! I realize this is kind of off-topic but I needed to ask. Does building a well-established blog like yours take a lot of work? I am brand new to running a blog however I do write in my diary everyday. I'd like to start a blog so I can share my experience and thoughts online. Please let me know if you have any kind of ideas or tips for new aspiring bloggers. Thankyou! paypal account login
